We the People Dissent is a group committed to respect, diversity, and inclusion.

1. Take space / make space. If you usually jump in, practice posing; if you usually hold back, know your voice matter and we aren’t expecting polish. We’re building for people power in all its forms.

2. There are multiple ways to speak. Choose what’s safest and effective for you.

3. “I” statements. Speak from experience; avoid naming of shaming others. Avoid generalizations, especially about people or groups were not present.

4. Confidentiality with purpose. What’s said here, stays here. What’s learned here, leaves here.

5. Assume good intent; name real impact. We are non-violent, anti-racist, and justice-oriented. We all bring different experiences and different causes that drive us forward, from environmental protection to economic justice, from reproductive freedom to LGBTQIA+ rights, from immigrant rights to corporate money out of politics, from healthcare access to education. It can be easy to see why we have trouble putting together a common voice–we don’t have one and that’s what beautiful. However when harm happens, we address it–together.

6. Progress over perfection. Action beats endless planning; imperfect efforts are how movements grow.
