DEMAND THE ROYAL OAK CITY COMMISSION SUSPEND POLICE OFFICERS WHO CALLED ICE ON A LEGAL ALIEN

Pack the Room of Royal Oak City Commission

On Wednesday, January 21, around 9:30 pm on northbound lanes of Woodward Ave between West Lincoln Avenue and West 9th St in Royal Oak, Michigan, a family of three, one male (driver), one female (passenger), and child (passenger) were pulled over by local police.

The family was working as DoorDash delivery services. According to the female passenger the police officer initiated the stop to inform them that their license plate was due to expire (currently up to date and expires April 2026). The driver (Emerxon) presented a valid drivers license to the officer and a photo of his social security card. The officer took the drivers license back to his patrol car where he then proceeded to prolong the traffic stop for an additional 40 minutes. In this time a second local police officer arrived and shortly after a blue striped U.S Customs and Border Patrol vehicle arrived to detain Emerxon. His partner (female passenger) pleaded with the local police to let them go (herself and child) and the local officer did. Emerxon’s partner ordered an Uber for her and her child and the local officer instructed her to cross the street to wait for the Uber there. Emerxon was detained by Border Patrol and has not been heard from since. Local police had the family’s vehicle impounded and gave the female passenger a business card for the impound lot: A&M Towing, a Royal Oak based towing company.

At this time Royal Oak officials deny any claims that their officers were involved with any of this. Due to fear and language barriers the female passenger was not able to acquire names or badge numbers of the local police officers, however she vividly remembers the description of the local police cars, describing them as black vehicles with large white lettering, which matches the Royal Oak Police Department cars. Considering that the cities near Royal Oak use cars with a different appeareance, we highly suspect this car was indeed one of the ROPD.

This arrest is not to be taken lightly.

Considering that Emerxon has no criminal record, was able to show ID and documentation, and didn’t commit any traffic violation;

Considering that the police officer had no obligation nor reasons to call the CBP;

Considering that the Royal Oak Police Department has a reputation of non-cooperation with ICE/CBP;

The Royal Oak Police Department must shed light on this arrest.

Royal Oak residents and Metro Detroit activists require that the city commissionners comply with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), call discipline on the police officer responsible for the call and on whoever approved the call.

At a time of extreme tensions between ICE/CBP and American communities, Royal Oak residents and Metro Detroit activists cannot accept such conduct in a Police Department they thought they could trust.

Please join us MONDAY 26th 2026 at 7:30 PM at the City Commission meeting. 203 S. Troy St in Royal Oak to demand the FOIA be enforced and police officers be suspended.
