Actions to Resist:

1. Protest in the streets! We are a Metro Detroit group and we organize and attend protests in Detroit. You can find other events in your area if you live in different parts of Michigan or out of state. Visit Mobilize, Political Revolution, and Women’s March. Please check the ACLU website to know your rights before you head to the streets. Protesting is a right protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution. If you want to know how to get prepared and what to expect at a protest, feel free to read this Wired article. Also you can watch this video about de-escalation techniques created by Dartmouth Trauma Interventions Research Center or this excellent training series with Jamie Bauer.

2. Sign-up for our Resistance Bulletin that will help you keep track of all events and actions that you can take in a given week.

3. Volunteer with us! We need you! Please watch this onboarding talk by Isa to find your happy place in the resistance and fill out this intake form.

4. Reach out to people: download and print out this leaflet. Have a few copies with you wherever you go, so you can hand it out to anyone who wonders what they can do.

5. Become a petition circulator!

6. Canvass for the candidates who live by the values we honor: clean environment, equity, corporate money out of politics, education funding, affordable housing, etc.

7. Call your representatives. An incredible resource is 5 Calls. The team behind it keeps it updated, so you can find the latest and most critical actions to take daily weekly. If you’re nervous to call – that’s okay and understandable! But don’t let that hold you back. 5 Calls has scripts and even the phone numbers you need to call, right there at your finger tips! You don’t have to use the script provided, but it can make it easier for those who aren’t quite sure what to say.

8. Attend town halls of representatives even if they aren’t yours. You will learn first-hand information that can still be valuable to apply or share within your own district. Plus, those attending because it pertains to their district will appreciate the extra support! Should you attend your own town hall and your Rep/Senator is there, you will be able to hold them accountable on the spot!

9. Support the candidates running in the November 2026 election with a chance to flip the Senate and the House!

10. Educate yourself first. Read this summary about what a constitutional crisis is, what ties to fascism the current government has. Read this letter from Detroit to the Nation.

11. Educate the people around you. Family, friends & colleagues can be a good place to start, as you’re most likely more comfortable around them in order to strike up a conversation. You can find a lot of documentation to support your explanations within our website, or you may use reputable sources that have been fact checked.

12. Repost and share info about upcoming protests and actions across your social media & neighborhood. Spreading the word is essential to the success of the resistance. Follow We the People Dissent on Instagram and Facebook.

13. BOYCOTT. We boycott all big businesses such as Amazon, Target, Nestlé, Tesla. Also, here you can find the list of companies that donated to Trump. During the holiday time, we are mindful to shop local. Here are many ideas to shop for gifts that won’t make billionaires richer and people weaker: how to blackout the system of the Rich.

14. Stay positive and take care of yourself! Chaos is upon us, but we will defeat it if we keep a fierce heart, connect to each other, and organize. Do not lose hope. We are in this together. We will not be defeated!
