Dear members of the American Resistance,

We continue the fight against ICE (spoiler: it’s working).

Mary Waters, Detroit City Council Member At-Large, proposed an ordinance to unmaskkk ICE: The ‘Alex Pretti Detroit No Masks Ordinance’, a hell of a good name, if you want my opinion.

Detroit Police Chief Bettison is moving forward with firing two officers who turned people to CBP after traffic stop. This is very very encouraging. Even Fox News National reported it, in an (almost) unbiased article.

Y’all know that the same situation happened in Royal Oak on January 21st (and in Pleasant Ridge) and that Chief of Police Moore has taken steps to prevent this to happen again in Royal Oak in the form of an internal directive that forbids officers to call CBP or ICE during traffic stops. We will follow up with him in the next weeks to see how the directive is implemented. Just a heads-up though: We may need to go back to the city commissioners meetings. In the meantime, 🧡Marie🧡 said she is writing a letter to Police Chief Moore to express her outrage.

Regarding Emerxon, we are still raising money for legal costs, although his court date is around the corner, Feb 24th. Thank you to the 25 donors!! You too can participate here:https://gofund.me/567b760eb. So far, we have raised $1,055, helping tremendously with the cost of the Habeas Corpus ($3,000).

The situation that happened in Royal Oak really calls for setting up a legal team at WtPD. Please, if you have about 3 hours per week to devote to it, step up! You do not need to have legal knowledge. You will be connected to people who do. You will only do calls and coordinate the effort. Your mission would be 1/ to follow up with Emerxon’s family with the legal help, and/or 2/ to work hand-in-hand with attorney 🧡Michael S.🧡 to contact local activists in all cities in Metro Detroit and share with them a resolution to stop any mix between traffic stops and immigration enforcement.

This is WtPD next big project along with the Signs of Solidarity Initiative, which is a Faith Leader engagement, the launch of Singing Resistance Detroit, the creation of a Public Tribunal to expose the activities of ICE in our communities, and the preparation of No Kings 3!! Do not hesitate to join our next meetings to learn more about how you can help with the gazillion tasks they break into.

More updates…

On Feb 17th, 🧡Mickey🧡 and 🧡Victoria🧡 went to Shri Thanedar’s office to push for impeachment with a 14-page memo! They also received a call from Rashida Tlaib’s office who will follow up. We’re moving forward.

Yesterday’s online meeting had good conversations and lovely new people joining. Please check out Ty’s substack! It’s worth (reading and) a click!

🧡Linda L.🧡 found this EXCELLENT article that articulates to perfection how, in US history, society shifts when white folks start taking bullets for minorities. If you don’t have a NYT subscription, please ask me or Linda and we’ll send you the copy of the article. It’s a precious one.

As always, please share this Bulletin with two new more people, join the Signal Chat here, and follow your 🧡very own group 🧡, 🧡We the People Dissent🧡 on InstagramFacebook, and Bluesky
